Step 1: Open the web page you would like to save

Step 2: Click on Options/menu and click on Print or simply press simultaneously Ctrl + P on your keyboard

Step 3: On the destination options or Printer Name, select save as PDF. If you didn't see 'save as PDF', check for Microsoft print to PDF

Step 4: Set other options like orientation, number of pages and paper size the way you want

Step 5: Click on Save or OK

Step 6: To locate the file you just saved, open File Explorer>>Libraries>>Documents and the file is just right there.

You can also save a webpage as PDF with your Android phone but only with Chrome browser. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the web page you would like to save

Step 2: Tap options

Step 3: Tap Share

Step 4: Select Print. If you didn't see Print, check for Cloud Print

Step 5: From the Print options, select Save as PDF

Step 6: Set the paper size and number of copies you like

Step 7: Tap the PDF icon at the top of the preview page

Step 8: Select the folder you would like to save the file to and tap on SAVE

How Your Android’s Pattern Lock Can Be Cracked In Just 5 Attempts

Pattern lock on Android smartphones is probably the quickest and easiest way to gain access to the device. A group of researchers has a created a computer vision algorithm which is capable of cracking complex pattern locks with an accuracy of 87.5% after analyzing a video recording. As a protective measure, you can use fingerprint input method on your smartphone.

Afew days ago, Fossbytes wrote about the list of the most popular (dumbest) passwords of 2016. You might be wise enough to consider a tough password for your devices and online accounts. But if you think that pattern lock is more secure than common passwords, your thinking will change after reading this story.

According to a new research published on Phys.org, it possible to crack a smartphone’s pattern lock in around five attempts, after which the device gets locked. It is possible by recording a video of people entering pattern lock on their phone.

The story isn’t as childish as it sounds. You’re not supposed to decipher the pattern from the video afterward. But a computer vision algorithm developed by the researchers – from Lancaster University, Northwest University of China, and the University of Bath – is assigned to do this task.

The algorithm can work with an accuracy of more than 80 percent for complex patterns and crack them in 5 attempts. In fact, they were able to crack simple pattern in the first attempt with 60 percent accuracy.

The software doesn’t even need to look at the screen to crack the pattern lock. It understands the movements of user’s fingers relative the smartphone from the video. After analyzing a video, the algorithm suggests a bunch of possible patterns.

Overall, a total of 120 unique patterns were checked. The researchers note that patterns involving more lines and complex shapes are easier for the algorithm to crack.

The attack can be done on any smartphone. Pattern locks are primarily used on the smartphones running the Android operating system. In the case of iOS devices, Pin lock is mostly used.

How to protect yourself?

It would be hard to protect your Android or any other smartphone from the digital eyes out there in the wild. Recording a video of you entering your pattern lock on your Android smartphone is an easy task for any shoulder surfer in subways.

If we consider a practical scenario, even if a person records a video, it would be hard to gain physical access to your smartphone.

If your Android smartphone has a fingerprint sensor, you can prefer it over the pattern lock. Alternatively, you can cover your fingers while entering the pattern lock. Moreover, keeping a simple pattern lock help as the algorithm finds it difficult to crack.

Countless times, Google displays the results to the search words as a PDF file instead of a link to a particular web page. Yes! This has its advantages. You can download the file on the local storage for offline purposes. But how many rushes PDF files that you downloaded before providing the relevant information you need.

I remember when I was writing literature for my project year-end, I had to download hundreds of PDF documents, read them offline before taking the decision to keep the most relevant or eliminate irrelevantly.

This download, the reading process and eliminating waste two precious resources: time and data. However, the good news is that there is a way you can read the PDF file you see on the results page of Google search online without downloading. Believe me, read it online does not consume your data and easily access the contents of the document and then decide to download or not.

How I can know that a result in Google is a PDF and not a web page?

Knowing this is easy! In the front of the particular result, you will see the acronym "PDF" enclosed within a square bracket. This means that the link is PDF and when clicked, the file is downloaded.

So to be able to open the document online without downloading, follow the steps below.

• Open Google search page in your preferred browser
• After opening the page, input the word or string of words you want to search

• Instead of clicking on the PDF link in the result page, click on the green triangle turning upside down.

• Clicking on the triangle will bring out two options: Cached and Similar, and all you needed is the Cached option

• Right Click on the Cached option, and click on Open Link in New Tab. You are opening the link in New Tab because you want the PDF to open in a New Tab, and not override the search engine result page

• Click on the New Tab to see the contents inside the PDF file

That's! Now you can read the contents of the document and the decision is now in your hand to download the PDF if you think your content is relevant to your search.

• After scrolling to see Windows Explorer or Explorer, click to select.
• After clicking to select, locate restart towards the bottom right of the task manager.

• Click on restart and voila your Windows will re-launch just like the way it will when you switch on the PC and your hanging problem is fixed.

A significant advantage of these steps is that even if you restart Windows Explorer, applications running on the PC during the restart does not close, and of course, the team does not go through a process of a full reset.
