MTN launches first 4G LTE network in Cameroon

Cameroon witnessed the launch of its first 4G LTE network when MTN launched its 4G network on the 17th of December, 2015. Initial roll-out for the service covers Yaoundé, Douala, Bamenda and Buea on the 18th of December. Early bird subscribers in Yaounde are reporting download speeds of up to 66.99 Mbps.

MTN Cameroon has announced that it has become the first network in Cameroon to launch next generation 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology.

“By launching the next generation 4G LTE technology, we are not only investing in a network. We are also, and most especially, investing in the Cameroonian people. We are investing in every child in the country through this new technology that will ease access to education, culture and health. We are also contributing to the competiveness of local businesses, and we are naturally accompanying the Government in its strides towards the emergence of Cameroon,” said Mrs. Philisiwe SIBIYA, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon.

MTN’s 4G LTE network will offer Cameroonians the fastest Internet possible and contribute to the socio-economic progress of Cameroon. At launch, MTN Cameroon’s 4G network covers the towns of Yaoundé, Douala, Bamenda and Buea. It will be extended progressively to other parts of the country.
